LIVE ROCK

Real aragonitic base rock, not cement, no curing. Extensive macro and micro-porosity infused with spored bacteria for outstanding biological performance. Clean and safe for all fish and inverts, environmentally responsible each piece being very unique.  None of this live rock is collected from the wild.

Live rock's main purpose is to provide biological filtration, while at the same time providing shelter for your tank inhabitants. Live rock has the ability to house the two specific types of bacteria essential for filtration. Since live rock in the aquarium contains various types of bacteria, waste products such as ammonia, nitrite and nitrate can have a number of fates. Ammonia can also be quickly converted into nitrite by the bacteria on your rock and top layer of sand. All of the surfaces in your reef effectively become your biological filter. The oxygenated surfaces, such as the outer surfaces of rock and top layer of sand, support the nitrifying bacteria. The innermost layers of rock and lower levels of sand can support the denitrifying bacteria.

So, how much do I need?  It is recommended to have between 1 - 2 lbs per gallon of water (don't forget to factor in the water in your sump / filter system).

FRAG ZONE ROCK

While a newcomer, Frag Zone rock is becoming quite the addition. Not only does it create a subtle dynamic to your aqua-scape, it is a great place to glue newly introduced coral frags for acclimation, then it will blend into the rock-scape when your ready to place the coral onto its new place.
